Description

Erythrops phuketensis Fukuoka &Murano, 2002

Type locality. Around Phuket Island, Thailand (Fukuoka & Murano 2002).

Record from Thailand. South-eastern Andaman Sea, next to Phuket Island, Thailand (Fukuoka & Murano 2002).

Habitat and depth. Marine, depth: 59 m (Fukuoka & Murano 2002).

Distribution. So far, this species is only known from the South-eastern Andaman Sea, next to Phuket Island, Thailand (Fukuoka & Murano 2002).

Remarks. Erythrops phuketensis closely resembles E. frontieri, but they can be distinguished by the following characteristics; in E. phuketensis, (1) the apex of the antennal scale slightly overreaches the apex of the terminal spine of the lateral margin, (2) the endopod of the male fourth pleopod is armed with a modified seta on only the ultimate article, and (3) uropodal endopod of male does not bear spines or denticles in the statocyst region. While in E. frontier, (1) the apex of the antennal scale not reaching the middle part of the terminal spine of the lateral margin, (2) the endopod of the male fourth pleopod is armed with modified setae that arise from both the penultimate and antepenultimate articles, and (3) uropodal endopod of male bears spines in the statocyst region (Fukuoka & Murano 2002).
