Description
The currents at the shelf edge and on the continental slope are subject to a wide range of dynamical activity. This is because the steep change in topography acts as a converter for on-off shelf processes. It is also an effective trap for various wave phenomena. Also at the deep ocean intermittent velocity speeds can get very large, even if the mean field generally display modest values.
