Description
83. Eugenia winzerlingii Standley, Trop. Woods 11: 20 (1927)
EOO: 172,921.205 km ². AOO: 284 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Least Concern.
Eugenia winzerlingii has a wide distribution in the Mexican territory, occurring mainly in the southeast of Mexico, but also in Central American countries like Guatemala and Belize (WCSP 2020). The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) exceeds the thresholds for a threatened category under the criterion B, as well as the area of occupancy (AOO) would likely exceed the thresholds of any threatened category when the remaining habitat available is taken in account. There are more than 10 known locations based on 106 collections recorded. The occurring biomes are the Humid Tropical Forest and the Humid Montane Forest, from 11 to 1,363 m elev. The habitat is mostly in a good state of conservation and with a low rate of ecological degradation, including occurrences within protected areas such as “Reserva de la Biosfera de Calakmul” and “Campo Experimental El Tormento”, both in Campeche and the “Reserva de la Biosfera Montes Azules”, in Chiapas (Mexico), the Maya Biosphere Reserve and the San Miguel La Palotada El Zotz Protected Biotope (Guatemala), and the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary (Belize) (CONABIO 2018, INESEMARNAP 1999a, INE-SEMARNAP 2000a). Therefore, according to the analysis by the BGCI & IUCN (2019L), Eugenia winzerlingii is classified as Least Concern (LC).
