Description
37. Eugenia koepperi Standley, Publ. Field Columb. Mus., Bot. Ser. 9: 320 (1940)
EOO: 84,524.753 km ². AOO: 128 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Least Concern.
Eugenia koepperi occurs in southeastern Mexico, from the state of Chiapas to Guatemala and Honduras (WCSP 2020). The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) exceeds the thresholds for a threatened category under the criterion B. The area of occupancy (AOO) would likely exceed the thresholds of any threatened category when the remaining habitat available is taken in account. There are more than 10 known locations based on 46 collections, including records from Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras. In Mexico, this species has a distribution in the state of Chiapas, in the rainforest reserves with a good state of conservation such as the “Reserva de la Biosfera Montes Azules” and the “Reserva de la Biosfera Lacan-Tun”, which count on efforts of the Mayan Lacandones indigenous communities for the conservation of forests and studies that argue the great value of biodiversity of flora in the region (CONABIO 2018, Marion 1991, Nations & Nigh 1981, Martínez et al. 1994, INE-SEMARNAP 2000a). Eugenia koepperi is classified as Least Concern (LC).
Specimens examined:— MEXICO. Chiapas: Martínez et al. 26020 (MEXU!). Guatemala: Contreras 3471 (LL); Honduras: Yuncker et al. 8749 (F).
