  • 1. University of California

Description

This code is for use in the area of nowcasting earthquakes, a type of earthquake anticipation.  The following is explanation from the code header.

#   Python code to compute the xml and image files for the megacities javascript table that goes into the
    #       Megacities_Nowcast.html site
    #
    #   This code downloads data from the USGS web site

    #   The results of the calculation are contained in the HTML-Javascript "Megacities_Nowcast.html".  Place
    #       the folder "Data" and the HTML code into your web root directory for best results.

    #   The data for the web site is generated by invoking the command line prompt in a terminal window:  python Megacities.py
    #       The results are placed in the Data folder.
    #
    #   This code was written on a Mac using Macports python.  A list of the ports needed to run the code are available at:
    #       https://www.dropbox.com/s/8wr5su8d7l7a30z/myports-wailea.txt?dl=0
    #
    #   NOTE:  Cartopy throws a bunch of non-fatal errors and warnings such as:
    #       <urlopen error [Errno 8] nodename nor servname provided, or not known>
    #       It appears that these can be safely ignored
