Monitoring and Building information modelling (BIM) as an efficient support for ensuring asset management in electrical utilities

Description

Modern dynamic market dictate that many electrical utilities are reorganizing their business model. This may require upgrading and integrating new concepts such as asset management. Many electrical utilities in the world and in Europe have already set up business systems in accordance with ISO 55001.

The asset management requires timely and accurate information - from the tender selection, design, implementation, operation and maintenance, possible extension of the useful life and up to final disposal. Modern approaches of the digitalization of the construction (e.g. Building Information Modelling - BIM) represent a modern, integrated and systematic platform for planning, project management and control processes, as well as for engineering and other functional areas within the organization. The trend of introducing asset management demands an upgrade of monitoring of electrical power assets, more recently, monitoring of overhead line components.
