Avaliação computacional das doses recebidas por pacientes de um ano de idade submetidos a TC de crânio
Description
Computed Tomography (CT) exam uses ionizing radiation and it is one of the ways to visualize structures, inflammation, and abnormalities in the human organ. The use of CT, especially in children, has increased in recent years, among them, the Cranial CT scan for diagnosis and monitoring of traumatic brain injuries, diseases that cause epilepsy and mental confusion, and tumor monitoring. It is known that ionizing radiation can cause biological deleterious effects, as cancer. In addition, children are more radiosensitive than adults and thus more prone to the development of neoplasms. Therefore, this work aimed to study and evaluate the doses received by a 1-year-old pediatric patient undergoing cranial CT examination using the Monte Carlo method together with a virtual anthropomorphic phantom. The results obtained were that the organs with the highest equivalent dose conversion coefficients (CC[HT]) were thyroid (0.57 ± 0.03 Gy/100mAs), salivary glands (0.52 ± 0.01 Gy/100mAs), brain (0.34 ± 0.01 Gy/100mAs). Also, the value of the effective dose received by the examined child corresponded to 1.78 ± 0.01 mSv, and this value agrees with the studies found in the literature.
