Description

Xantocampsomeris limosa Burmeister, 1854

Female. Body length 17.9 mm (range 13.7 mm – 23.6 mm); forewing length 23.9 mm; Structure. Clypeus margins punctate; interantennal area and frons densely punctured; vertex and gena shiny with coarse sparse punctures; pronotum densely punctured; dorsal surface or mesosoma densely punctured excepting the medial area of mesoscutum and scutellum; coarse and close punctures on dorsal face of propodeum and on the upper half of posterior face; hind tibial spurs spatulate. Color. Setae yellow to reddish on head, dorsal surface of mesosoma and metasoma, and S5–S6, white setae elsewhere; body black; yellow spots on T1–T3 and sometimes T4; wings hyaline (Fig. 23)

Male. Body length 16 mm (range 12 mm – 19.5 mm); forewing length 12.1 mm; Structure. Upper margin of clypeus, interantennal area densely punctate; fronts, vertex and gena with some punctures; dorsal surface of mesosoma shiny; pronotum densely punctured; dorsal surface or mesosoma densely punctured excepting the medial area of mesoscutum and scutellum; posterior face of propodeum moderately punctate; fore wings hairy along the anterior margin. Genitalia (Fig. 42K). Parameres robust, gently curved inward, apex margin blunt, ventral face polished with long scattered setae; volsellae with long sparse setae. Color. Setae pale yellow on head and dorsal surface of mesosoma and metasoma, those on apical terga (T5–T7) and sterna (S5–S7) black; setae white elsewhere; two subtriangular yellow spots on lateral margins of clypeus; a yellow subtriangular spot on each side of pronotum; yellow maculations on scutellum, metanotum, dorsal face of fore and mid tibiae, dorsal face of fore basitarsi; yellow bands on lower half of T1–T4 (occasionally on T5), and apical margin of S2–S3; wings hyaline (Fig. 24).

Distribution. NA and NT. Mexico: Aguascalientes, Campeche, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Estado de México, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz (Map 5).
