Survival Rate and Growth Performance of Akkaraman and Lalahan Sheep (Kıvırcık x Akkaraman BC1)
Description
This review aims to collect the studies and examining the survival rate and growth performance of Akkaraman and Lalahan sheep (Kıvırcık x Akkaraman BC1). Akkaraman has the highest number and the largest breeding area among the domestic sheep breeds in Turkey and has come to the fore with its adaptability and yield characteristics. It has been a frequently preferred breed in crossbreeding. Kıvırcık is another domestic sheep breed that is widely grown, especially in the Marmara Region, and has high values in terms of fertility and milk yield. In addition to fertility and milk yield, also in the first place in lamb meat production. It has been reported that Lalahan sheep obtained by Kıvırcık x Akkaraman backcrossing has the yield characteristics of both breeds and is similar to the Kıvırcık breed in terms of morphological characteristics and lamb meat production. Considering the fertility and growth performance of lambs, which are the most important fertility parameters in sheep breeding, it is seen that there is a wide variation in Akkaraman and Kıvırcık breeds due to reasons such as husbandry, breeding, feeding and individual differences. There are not many studies on these characteristics of Lalahan sheep, which is Kıvırcık x Akkaraman BC1. There is a need for up-to-date studies on both native breeds and their cross-breeds.
