Academic Motivation for Postgraduate Students in Universities between Traditional Learning and Distance Learning

The main purpose of the current study is to reveal the internal and external motives of postgraduate students in different universities, places and cultures before and after the Covid -19 pandemic, as the two universities of Minnesota Islamic / Jordan Branch in Jordan and Kuwait University in the State of Kuwait were selected, and the random study sample consisted of 264 male and female students.Participants comprised 135 male and 129 female students; 128 of them were traditional students, and 136 of them were distance learning students, to measure three types of intrinsic motivation(intrinsic motivation to know, to accomplish things, and to experience stimulation), three types of extrinsic motivation (external, introjected, and identified regulation) and a motivation in university students, the current study used A 21 item Academic Motivation Scale (SAMS-21), The results of the study revealed that the self-motivation scores of students who learn via the distance learning method are superior to the scores of students who learn in the traditional way in the classroom. The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences due to student gender or the location of the university in which he studies in terms of academic motivation. mplications for practice or policy: The use of distance learning is effective in increasing students' motivation compared to traditional learning. It is appropriate for researchers to focus on intrinsic motivation more than others because of its positive association with learning outcomes. Improving distance learning means and tools pushes more studies to reveal their impact on improving motivation indicators.
