Sasajiscymnus lamellatus

Description

Sasajiscymnus lamellatus (Yang & Wu, 1972)

(Figs 36, 70)

Chinese name: 片ḧ瓢•

Pseudoscymnus lamellatus Yang & Wu, 1972: 124 (type locality: Puli, Nantou, Taiwan, China).— Pang et al. 2004: 87; Kovář 2007: 582.

Sasajiscymnus lamellatus: Yu 2011: 119 — Iqbal et al. 2020: 385.

Diagnosis. This species is similar to S. variabilis sp. nov. in structures of the male genitalia, but can be distinguished from the later by the penis guide blunt apically and elytra mostly black with yellowish brown apices (Fig. 36d). In S. variabilis, penis guide is pointed at apex and elytra have variable markings (Figs 37a–f, 37k).

Description. TL: 2.1–2.3 mm, TW: 1.5–1.6 mm.

Body oval, moderately convex, surfaces covered with short pubescence. Head yellowish brown with interocular distance distinctly greater than eye width in frontal view. Pronotum yellowish brown. Scutellar shield black. Elytra black with yellowish brown apices. Ventral surfaces yellowish brown to black. Legs yellowish brown. Abdominal postcoxal lines incomplete, not recurved toward the base of ventrite (Fig. 36a).

Male genitalia: Penis stout, penis capsule with stout outer arm and long inner one, apex of penis with a deep emargination and membranous appendage (Figs 36b–c). Parameres about 2/3 as long as penis guide, with a tuft of long setae at apex; penis guide widest at base in ventral view, apically rounded (Fig. 36d).

Female genitalia: Coxites elongate, triangular; styli well developed with terminal setae; spermatheca distinctly curved, with basal ramus and elongate nodulus.

Material examined. Holotype: China: Taiwan: ♂, Puli Town, Nantou County, 17.III.1972, Yang CT leg (NCHU). Paratype: China: Taiwan: 1♀, Same data as holotype (NCHU).

Distribution. China (Taiwan).
