Description

Sasajiscymnus striatus Tong & Wang sp. nov.

(Figs 15, 72)

Chinese name: 条Ṅḧ瓢•

Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished from other species of Sasajiscymnus by its penis strongly constricted at distal 1/3 (Fig. 15e).

Description. TL: 1.45–1.99 mm, TW: 1.01–1.44 mm, TH: 0.59–0.73 mm.

Body oval, moderately convex, surfaces covered with short pubescence (Figs 15a–c). Head yellow with interocular distance distinctly greater than eye width in frontal view. Pronotum yellow with a large black spot. Scutellar shield black. Elytra black with yellowish brown apices, and each elytron with a longitudinal reddish brown stripe. Ventral surfaces yellow to black. Legs yellow. Abdominal postcoxal lines incomplete, not recurved toward the base of ventrite (Fig. 15d).

Male genitalia: Penis stout and strongly constricted at distal 1/3, penis capsule with stout outer arm and long inner one, apex of penis distinctly constricted with membranous appendage (Figs 15e–f). Penis guide with prominent keel at base in lateral view, then gradually narrowing to pointed apex; parameres about 1/3 as long as penis guide, with a tuft of long setae at apex; penis guide approximately parallel sided for basal 1/ 3 in ventral view, apically rounded (Figs 15g –h).

Female genitalia: Coxites elongate, triangular; styli well developed with terminal setae; spermatheca distinctly curved, with basal ramus and elongate nodulus.

Type material. Holotype: China: Xizang: ♂, Beibeng Town, Muotuo County, 800 m, 9.X.2011, Huo LZ leg (SCAU). Paratypes (SCAU): China: Yunnan: 2♂ 1♀, Qinglandan, Maku Village, Gongshan County, 4– 7.VIII.2010, Wang XM leg. Xizang: 1♂ 1♀, Yarang Village, Muotuo County, 768–1030 m, 24.X.2007, Wang XM leg; 2♂ 2♀, Beibeng Town, Muotuo County, 600–768 m, 25.X.2007, Wang XM leg; 3♂, Zhamo Highroad 140K, Bomi County, 900 m, 27.X.2007, Wang XM leg; 5♂ 4♀, Yihaoqiao, Hanmi, Muotuo County, 14.X.2009, Wang XM leg; 1♂ 2♀, Hanmi, Muotuo County, 800–2100 m, 5–8.X.2011, Huo LZ leg.

Distribution. China (Yunnan, Xizang).

Etymology. The specific epithet striatus derives from the Latin word “striatus” and refers to the longitudinal stripe on the disc of each elytron.
