Description

Crocidura smithii Thomas, 1895. Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., ser. 6, 15:51.

TYPE LOCALITY: Ethiopia, Webi Shebeli, near Finik.

DISTRIBUTION: Arid regions of Senegal, Ethiopia, and probably Somalia.

SYNONYMS: debalsaci.

COMMENTS: Revised by Hutterer (1986a). Specimens reported from Somalia by Heim de Balsac (1966a) represent macarthuri; see under that species. Includes debalsaci as a subspecies; see Hutterer (1981 b).
