Sminthopsis psammophila Spencer, 1895. Proc. R. Soc. Victoria, 7 (n.s.):223.

TYPE LOCALITY: Australia, Northern Territory, Lake Amadeus.

DISTRIBUTION: Australia: SW Northern Territory (vicinity of Ayer's Rock) and Eyre Peninsula (South Australia).

STATUS: CITES - Appendix I; U.S. ESA - Endangered; IUCN - Insufficiently known.

COMMENTS: Known only from five specimens; see Archer (1981:215).
