Description

In addressing this study, the aim was to examine the causal link between women's entrepreneurial skills and the performance of SMEs in Goma. To do this, we asked questions centered on the following questions: What is the causal link between the entrepreneurial skills of women and the performance of SMEs in Goma? But also, What does it take to work better in the city of Goma? The methodology adopted was mainly based on a qualitative and quantitative approach within formal small and medium sized businesses created by women. The survey targeted a category of women entrepreneurs working in the two communes of the city of Goma. The data was collected in two phases: the qualitative survey and the quantitative survey. The results showed that 84.906% of women have an acceptable level of entrepreneurial competence. Only 1.887% of women are neither less competent nor more competent. The remaining 13,208% has a low level of entrepreneurial competence. This perspective shows that in the context of the city of Goma, the majority of women entrepreneurs combine entrepreneurial, managerial and techno-functional skills in the exercise of their entrepreneurial careers. This study showed that women's SMEs in Goma City have a high level of financial and non-financial performance. Nevertheless, it is observed in the context of Goma that women have smaller businesses and generate less turnover and profits because of a conflict between work and family. Empirical evidence in our possession also suggests that there is a statistically significant relationship of influence between the entrepreneurial skills of women in Goma city and the financial performance of their SMEs, given that the probability associated with the T-Student of the exogenous variable "Skill" is close to 0.0000. The theoretical and managerial implications of this work are numerous. Researchers and practitioners who wish to stimulate female entrepreneurship must indeed integrate this subjective and objective orientation of the performance in order to propose an entrepreneurial approach with meaning for the creators according to various contexts.
