An Overview On Depression And Antidepressants
Description
The SSRIs differ chemically from conventional antidepressants like tricyclic, tetracyclic, and monoamine oxidase inhibitors, but they share the same mechanism of action in that they selectively and potently inhibit serotonin neuronal reuptake while having no or very little impact on norepinephrine, acetylcholine, and histamine neuronal reuptake. Therefore, compared to other antidepressants of the tricyclic and tetracyclic class, these medications have less sedative, anticholinergic, and cardiovascular effects. The SSRI class of medications includes fluoxetine, fluroxamine, sertraline, indalpine, paroxetine, alproclate, femorxetine, and choroxamine. |
