Melomys moncktoni

Description

Melomys moncktoni (Thomas, 1904). Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., 14: 399.

TYPE LOCALITY: Papua New Guinea, Northern Prov., about 8° 30' S.z 148° E. (= 8° 20' S „ 148° 20' E., near loma and Buna; alternatively 8° 30' S., 148° 20' E„ Kumusi River).

DISTRIBUTION: S. and E. New Guinea; D'Entrecasteaux Isis.

COMMENT: Possibly two specifically distinct forms are presently included under this name (ACZ). Type locality discussed by Tate, 1951, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 97: 296, and Laurie and Hill, 1954:123.
