Otaria byronia

Description

Otaria byronia (Blainville, 1820). J. Phys. Chim. Hist. Nat. Arts Paris, 91:300.

TYPE LOCALITY: Probably Falkland Isis. (U.K.).

DISTRIBUTION: South American coasts from Peru to Uruguay; Falkland Isl. Occasionally north to coast of Brazil.

COMMENT: Includes flavescens as a synonym; see King, 1978, J. Mammal., 59:861; but also see Pine et al., 1978, Mammalia, 42:110- 111.

ISIS NUMBER: 5301413001005001001 as O. flavescens.
