Description
Martes zibellina (Linnaeus, 1758). Syst. Nat., 10th ed., 1:46.
TYPE LOCALITY: U.S. S. R., Siberia, Tomsk Dist., N. of Tobolsk.
DISTRIBUTION: Ural Mtns, to Siberia, Kamchatka, Sakhalin (U.S. S.R.); Mongolia; Sinkiang and N. E. China; N. Korea; Hokkaido (Japan); originally west to N. Scandanavia and W. Poland.
COMMENT: May be conspecific with americana, martes, and melampus; see Anderson, 1970, Acta Zool. Fenn., 130: 132; Hagmeier, 1961, Can. Field Nat., 75: 122- 138; and Corbet, 1978:172; but see also Hall, 1981:981; Gromov and Baranova, 1981:256-258. Revised by Pavlinin, 1966, Der Zobel Martes zibellina L., Wittenberg.
