Tragelaphus spekei Speke, 1863, in Journal of the Discovery of the Source of the Nile, p. 223.
TYPE LOCALITY: Tanzania, Karaque, west of Lake Victoria.
DISTRIBUTION: Gambia to S.W. Ethiopia, south to Angola, Namibia, N.W. Botswana, and South Africa.
COMMENT: The specific name is usually attributed to Sclater, 1864.
PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix III (Ghana).
