Ctenomys torquatus Lichtenstein, 1830. Darst. Saugeth., text of pl. 31.

TYPE LOCALITY: Brazil, S. provinces, and banks of Uruguay River.

DISTRIBUTION: Uruguay; N. E. Argentina; extreme S. Brazil.

COMMENT: Considered a distinct species by Ellerman, 1940:167, and Walker et al., 1975: 1048; but see Cabrera, 1961:547, who provisionally included it in brasiliensis. See Moojen, 1952, Biblio. Cient. Brasil., A(2): 188, for discussion of type locality.
