Hydrochaeris hydrochaeris

Description

Hydrochaeris hydrochaeris (Linnaeus, 1766). Syst. Nat., 12th ed., 1:103.

TYPE LOCALITY: Surinam.

DISTRIBUTION: Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, the Guyanas and Peru, south through Brazil, Paraguay, N.E. Argentina, and Uruguay.

COMMENT: Includes isthmius; see Handley, 1966, in Wenzel and Tipton, eds., Ectoparasites of Panama, p. 785. Cabrera, 1961:583, gave Pernambuco, Brazil as the type locality, but see Husson, 1978:451, for restriction.

ISIS NUMBER: 5301410020001001001 as H. hydrochaeris.

5301410020001002001 as H. isthmius.
