Spermophilus fulvus (Lichtenstein, 1823). Naturh. Abh. Eversmann's Reise, p. 119.
TYPE LOCALITY: U.S. S. R., Kazakh. S.S. R., E. of Mugodzhary Mtns., near Kuvandzhur River.
DISTRIBUTION: Kazakhstan (U.S. S.R.), from the Caspian Sea and the Volga River to Lake Balkash south to N. E. Iran, and N. Afghanistan; Sinkiang (China).
COMMENT: Subgenus Colobotis; see Gromov et al., 1965:276. Hall, 1981:381, included Colobotis in subgenus Spermophilus.
