Data accompanying the paper titled: The Impact of Large-Scale Winds on Boundary Layer Structure, Thermally Driven Flows, and Exchange Processes over Mountainous Terrain. 

This repository contains model output data, post-processing scripts, plotting scripts, and figures for several idealized simulations over an infinitely long, periodic valley; run with CM1 (Bryan and Fritsch 2002; Bryan 2016) in LES mode. 

Details about the idealized cases: a REF case representing the convective boundary layer over a 1.5 km deep, 20.48 km wide valley on a fair-weather day (prescribed surface fluxes), the cases U2/4/8 with an initial upper-level wind of 2/4/8 m/s, and a FLAT case without orography but with otherwise the same setup. The remaining cases vary in the ridge height, the valley width, the initial temperature lapse rate, or impose a diurnal cycle forced by solar radiation (DC). 

The files are organized in the following way: 

The post-processed output data from the idealized cases together with the configuration files are located in the respective directories. 

The jupyter notebooks for post-processing (diag_CM1_tm.ipynb) and plotting (weinkaem_figures.ipynb) are located in 'scripts'. 

The figures for the publication are located in 'fig'.
