Observing type I AGN around Cosmic Noon with ELT/HARMONI

Description
The incoming generation of the 30-40 meter-class telescopes will enable resolving the stellar kinematics of high redshift galaxies. In particular, the High Angular Resolution Monolithic Optical and Near-infrared Integral field spectrograph (HARMONI) for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) could likely resolve the stellar kinematics of galaxies around cosmic noon with similar spatial and velocity resolutions to current studies for nearby and intermediate redshift galaxies. We have simulated HARMONI observations of type I AGNs at redshift 1.5, using the 20x20 mas2 spatial scale and LTAO working at 0’’.67 seeing. We used MUSE observations of a nearby galaxy to create the input targets for the HARMONI simulation pipeline (HSIM). In this work, we present the results of these simulations highlighting the capabilities of HARMONI to unveil the stellar morpho-kinematic properties of type I AGNs around cosmic noon, performing a de-blending of the AGN and host galaxy spectra.
