Visualizing parameter and state estimation for a zero-dimensional ocean biological model

  • 1. UC Santa Cruz

Description

This GitHub repository contains Jupyter notebooks demonstrating parameter optimization and state estimation techniques, applied to a zero-dimensional ocean biological model. Each notebook uses a simple NPZD-style model and allow the user to configure the parameter optimization or state estimation setup, for example, by modifying the observations used in the estimation process. Several pre-configured scenarios aim to visualize the problems of underdetermined and interdependent parameters, as described in Fennel et al. (2022, 10.1038/s43586-022-00154-2).

All notebooks, except for one using Matlab, are written in the Python programming language. To reference the latest release of the code, use the following DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.6968374

The code is referenced and used in the article "Ocean Biogeochemical Modelling" in Nature Review Methods Primers by Fennel et al. (2022).
