Atopida walkerae sp. nov.

Type material. Holotype, male (NZAC): “ Lee Valley \ Nel.15.X.66 \ A.K.Walker ”.

Diagnosis. Body moderately big (TL 4.0 mm), externally resembling A. insularis sp. nov. and other species with crenulate lateral carinae of pronotum. Certain identification possible on the basis of male genitalia: trigonium with triangularly pointed apex, parameroids widened at apices, pala much longer than parameroids.

Description. Male. Body elongated, moderately big (TL 4.0 mm), moderately convex. Body light brown, slightly darker stripe along elytral suture. Punctation on head and pronotum granulate, strong and dense, punctures touching each other, elongated indentation in anterior part of pronotum and round indentation in posterior part, punctation on elytra simple, coarse, punctures separated by 0.5× diameter of a puncture. Body covered with medium long, erect, yellowish setae, more numerous and ruffled on head and pronotum. Supraantennal ridges well-marked, triangularly elevated. Pronotum widest in the middle of its length, sides curved, lateral carinae crenulate, anterolateral angles produced, triangular, posterolateral angles obtuse. Elytra without carinae, humeri well-marked. Ventrite 5 rounded, apex delicately truncate. Penis (L 0.72 mm, W 0.27 mm) with rather wide trigonium, tapering towards the end, pointed, almost same length as parameroids; parameroids elongated, rectangular, apices wide, apical part covered with punctures; pala oblong oval, ca. 3× longer than parameroids. Tegmen (L 0.74 mm, W 0.40 mm) with wide triangular parameres, sparsely punctured, apices rounded, with numerous minute denticles at apices.

Female unknown.

Measurements and ratios. Male (n = 1) TL 4.00 mm, PL 0.70 mm, PW 1.13 mm, EL 3.25 mm, EW 2.00 mm, TL/EW 2.0, PW/PL 1.6, EL/EW 1.6, EL/PL 4.6, EW/PW 1.8.

Distribution. Known only from the type locality in Nelson area of South Island (Fig. 18L).

Etymology. The species is dedicated to Anette K. Walker, a New Zealand entomologist, collector of the holotype of A. walkerae sp. nov. and many other specimens examined during our studies.
