Description

The aim of this study is to identify the relation between workplace humor and professional quality of life among medical staff, as well as the moderating role of compassion in this relation. The sample consisted of 189 medical staff (Mage = 41.01; SD = 9.58). The results showed that self-enhancing and affiliative humor are positively related, while self-defeating humor is negatively related to compassion satisfaction. Burnout and secondary traumatic stress are negatively related to self-enhancing humor and positively related to self-defeating humor. Compassion moderates the relationship between affiliate humor and secondary traumatic stress. The practical implications of these results are discussed.
