Terrane accretion and subduction code
Description
This program is based on the Lagrangian-type finite element code MILAMIN (Hasenclever, 2010; Hasenclever et al., 2011; 2014). It has a free surface on the top (Andrés-Martínez et al., 2015). A triangular mesh is adaptively generated/regenerated according to the distribution of materials on tracers (Liu et al., 2018a;b). A compressible version of this code is based on de Montserrat et al. (2019). It has been benchmarked with pure advection (Hasenclever, 2010), Cantilever beam under a uniform load, SolCx, SolKz, Viscous inclusion, Rayleigh-Taylor instability, Stress build-ip in a visco-elastic Maxwell body, nonlinear rheology iterations (de Montserrat et al., 2019; De Montserrat Navarro, 2018), and free subduction (Liu et al., 2018a, b). These codes have been applied to study processes like mantle plume (Morgan et al., 2020), subduction (Liu et al., 2024a; Liu et al., 2024b), continental accretion or collision (Liu et al., 2023; Liu et al., 2021a; Liu et al., 2024c; Liu et al., 2021b), craton evolution and destruction (Liu et al., 2019; Liu et al., 2018a, b), and non-volcanic tremor (Vannucchi et al., 2022).
