Abstract
Stages of development of the banking system of Ukraine during 1991-2021 are highlighted in the article, the peculiarities of functioning at the present stage, taking into account the factors that hinder the effective functioning of the domestic banking sector are analyzed. The economic meaning of the concept of "systemically important bank" is substantiated, and the place of systemically important banks in the banking system of Ukraine is determined. The priority directions of development of the domestic banking sector, increasing of its stability and competitiveness due to the development of systemically important banks in Ukraine in order to ensure economic growth are described. The impact of financial risks on the activities of the largest systemically important banks of Ukraine by building a mathematical and econometric model was determined.
