Taxonomy. Wiedomys cerradensis P. R. Goncalves, Almeida & Bonvicino, 2005, Fazenda Sertao do Formoso,Jaborandi, Bahia, Brazil. This species is monotypic.
Distribution. Known from a few scattered localities in semiarid zone of NE Brazil.
Descriptive notes. Head-body 103-107 mm, tail 142-165 mm, ear 19-22 mm, hindfoot 25-27 mm; weight 35-37 g. Dorsum of the Cerrado Red-nosed Mouse is grizzled brown, combined with bright orange of rump, eye-ring, muzzle, ears, and on top offeet. Slightly grayersides contrast with entirely white venter, including ventral parts of forelimbs and hindlimbs. Tail is dark brown, with proximal ventral surface slightly paler. Chromosomal complement is 2n = 60, FN = 88. Differences between the Cerrado Red-nosed Mouse and the Common Red-nosed Mouse (W. pyrrhorinos) are subtle; the former apparently has smaller in body proportions.
Habitat. Semideciduous forest, cerrado, dry tropical forest, and gallery forest.
