Notes. The genus Poecilotiphia contains 54 species and one subspecies worldwide, among these 39 species and one subspecies are distributed in the Palearctic Region, and eleven species in the Afrotropical Region, and four species in both the Palearctic and Afrotropical regions. One species was recorded from China by Gorbatovsky (1980), and in this study it is reviewed and illustrated.

Diagnosis. Female. Body almost impunctate; fore surface of the mandibles with a longitudinal groove; Pam and Pal always less than 6- and 4- segmented, respectively; scape with more sparse punctures, not shaping a stripe and the setae shorter than scape; margin of the wings normal and mostly without long bristles, only P. mogadorensis with long bristles on apical half of wings; fore tibia and tarsus without densely short bristles; fore coxa of the group P. nigripes ventrally with a longitudinal strong carina but other species without such longitudinal carina; upper section of metapleural sulcus straight.

Male. Hypostomal carina not directed laterally, still reaching the inner mandibular condyle; inner margin of eye (Figs 81, 82) slightly bent, without a deep notch; CSM VII (Fig. 80) subtrapezoidal, much wider than height; carina of fore coxa and metapleural sulcus same as female; T2 distinctly narrowed at base, apex gradually becoming wider; T7 (Fig. 85) with comparatively shallow and U-shaped notch; length of S7 more than half of T 7 in lateral view.
