Inclusive and Sustainable society: Denmark

  • 1. Journalist

Description

Very often people get distracted and lost in defining happiness, or focusing on what does could be the meaning of our lives as human beings. We tend to debate about what type of political and economic system is the best, and we fight wars and kill each other to prove ourselves right. For me, the big question that we should all answer, to find a common ground and plan together for a better world, is about the primary and ultimate goal that everyone should be seeking and working for.

My answer, and in accordance with Maslow is the self-actualization of every individual. For me, this sums up everything, and every step we are and must take every day. It explains why we must work for sustainability, for climate change, and for protecting the ecosystem and endangered species. It unifies all the subgoals and objectives that each one of us draws and works for accomplishing. Different schools of psychology, social sciences, economies, and political sciences have been theorizing and developing methods to promote a perfect society, and for that reason, we see often many indexes categorizing countries and societies, for example, the most peaceful or sustainable ones, of the country with highest happiness rank, ...etc.

These ranks and indexes serve as a way to encourage societies to compete with each other to create the ultimate society that would fulfill all these aspects. But is there already any kind of society that can be called the perfect one, that is inclusive to everyone, and that is seeking and working for the self-actualization of every human being? In my opinion, yes there is, and it’s called Denmark.
