Among the provinces of the Madras Presidency, the district of Tuticorin played a predominant role in the course of the freedom struggle.All the movements connected with the freedom struggle found their effective response in the Tuticorin district. Among the various movements,the Quit India Movement was launched more vigorously. People irrespective of their caste, colour, race, religion and language took part in this movement.K.T. Kosalram was born in 1915 at Arumuganeri. He was a fear less politician, an independent thinker and a leader of the masses. All his activities were directed toward awakening the people to liberate themselves from they ok of the foreigners. He delivered heart-stirring speeches at various places in the district. He was not only interested in the political awakening of India but also in the cultural, social and economic renaissance of India.The Civil Disobedience Movement was launched at that time. He collected members and finance for attending the Vedharanyam March He led the Toddy and Arrack shop picketing in the taluk of Kovilpatti. It was followed by the boycott of foreign goods. Because of his hard work, he stopped the habit of the people from consuming liquor. His visit had a salutary effect on the freedom movement.During this period the country was preparing for the final struggle, the Quit India Movement.K.T. Kosalram played an important part in the Civil Disobedience Movement.K.T. Kosalram was the first person in recruiting revolutionary youths for the Quit India Movement. He was a member and organizer of the Freedom army. This army was primarily responsible for the destruction of the salt pans and the Kulasekarapatnam Salt factory. He attended a congress meeting held at the Hindu High School, Arumuganeri. The participants of the meeting took anoath for freeing the motherland from British imperialism.K.T. Kosalarm was very clever in organizing underground activities. He took part in the toddy–shop picketing and the boycott of foreign goods.
