Some thioindigoid dyes from 3-thiolphenanthrene and 2-thiolphenanthrene, similar to those obtained from 9-thiolphenanthrene (Dutta, this Journal. 1949, 26, 27), have been synthesised from the point of view of colour in relation to chemical constitution.
