Formation Constants of N(2-Hydroxy-1-Naphthalidene)-β-alanine Complexes of Cobalt (II), Nickel(II), Copper(II), Zinc(II) and Uranyl (II)

Description

Department of Chemistry, University of Jodhpur, Jodhpur

Received 27 March 1972

Potentiometric studies have been carried on metal complexes of Cobalt (II), Nickel (II), Copper (II), Zinc (II) and Uranyl (II) with N(2-Hydroxy-1-Naphthalidene)-β-alanine (H2NβA). The dissociation constants (pK1 ═ 5.50 and pK2 ═ 9.60) of H2NβA and the formation constants of  its metal complexes (1.1) have been determined by Bjerrum's method at 30±0.1°. The order of stability is found to  be UO2 > Cu > Ni > Co > Zn, which is in accordance with Irving and Williams rule.
