Benzoylacetanilide as a Gravimetric Reagent for Uranium(Vl)

Uranium(VI) has been determined gravimetrically with benzoylacetanilide. The orange-red complex, UO₂(C₁₅H₁₂NO₂)₂, 2H₂O, is precipitated in the pH-range 6.0-6.6, adjusted with pyridine and is weighed as such, after drying at 110⁰ Separation of UO₂²+ from Co²+, Ni²+ Pb²+, BP+, AI³ Fe³⁺, Cr³⁺, Ce²+, Th⁴+, VO²+ or MoO₄^2- has been effected by precipitating the complex in presencce of magnesium-EDTA, while sulphosalicylic acid has been used to mask Be²⁺ or Zr⁴+. The reliative standard deviation is 0.04% and the mean relative error is ± 0.14%. The uranium content of some samples of its ores have also been determined.
