Description

Department of Chemistry, Burdwan University, Burdwan West Bengal

Manuscript received 18 January 1973; accepted 11 May 1973

Uranium(VI) has been determined gravimetrically with benzoylacetanilide. The orange-red complex, UO2(C15H12NO2)2, 2H2O, is precipitated in the pH-range 6.0-6.6, adjusted with pyridine and is weighed as such, after drying at 1100 Separation of UO22+ from Co2+, Ni2+ Pb2+, BP+, AI3 Fe3+, Cr3+, Ce2+, Th4+, VO2+ or MoO42- has been effected by precipitating the complex in presencce of magnesium-EDTA, while sulphosalicylic acid has been used to mask Be2+ or Zr4+. The reliative standard deviation is 0.04% and the mean relative error is ± 0.14%. The uranium content of some samples of its ores have also been determined.
