Kinetics of the oxidation of phenyl phosphonous acid by manganese (Ill) in sulphuric acid has been studied. The reaction has been found to be of first order with respect to both phenyl phosphonous acid and manganese (Ill). Hydrogen ions retard the rate of reaction. The addition of sodium sulphate and increase in dielectric constant enhance the rate of reaction. A suitable mechanism for the oxidation process has been proposed.
