Two new saponins ( C and D ) have been isolated from stem-bark of Anthocephalus cadamba Miq. From the results of permethylation and periodate-oxidation studies, as well as by application of Klyne's rule the structures of saponin C and saponin D are established as β-D-glucopyranosyl (1→4)-β-D-glucopyranosyl (1→3)- α-L fucopyranosyl (1→3)quinovic acid and α-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1→4) β-D-glucopyranosyl (1→2) [β-D-glucopyranosyl (1→4)] α-L-fucopyranosyl (1→3) quinovic acid respectively.
