Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes of the multidentate ligands biacetyl thiosemicarbazone and biacetyl-(4-phenyl)-thiosemicarbazone (LH2 and L1H2) in the enol form have been synthesised. The complexes have the general formula ML.nH2O and ML1.nH2O [M=Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) and n=0-2]. A number of mixed-ligand complexes have also been synthesised. These were of the type ML(B)2 and ML1(B)2, (where B= py, 2-pic, 3-pic and 4-pic). These complexes have been characterised by elemental analyses, magnetic moment values, visible and infra-red spectra. The bonding sites and the geometry of the ligand environment around the metal ion have been discussed in the light of the physicochemical data obtained
