Alkylidene-(arylidene) Succinic Acids and Anhydrides

Alkylidene-(arylidene) succinic acids (1a & 1b) yielded corresponding anhydrides (2a & 2b) with acetyl chloride. Diacid (1b) gave 2-isobutylidene-3-carboxy-3,4- dehydrotetralone-1(3b) on treatment with conc. H₂SO₄ or PPA, and (1a) yielded 2-cydohexylidene-3-carboxy-3,4-dehydrotetralone-1(3a) with conc.H₂SO₄..
