New salts of oxohalomolybdate(V) ions, 5-nitro 1,10-phenanthroline oxopentachloro- and pentabromo molybdates, (5-nitrophenH2) [MoOX5] (X=CI, Br), have been isolated in pure form for the first time. Reactions of these salts both in solution and in solid state lead to the synthesis of nonelectrolytic cis·[MoOX3.5-nitropben], oxalato derivative [MoO.OX.CI.5-nitrophen] and hydrolytic products [Mo2O4X2(5-nitrophen)2]. These compounds have been characterised by analytical and other physico-chemical techniques.
