We used the regional climate model RegCM4 to investigate the physical processes sustaining the glacier extent during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) and pre-industrial time (PI) over the European Alps. After a bias-correction of precipitation and temperature data, we reconstructed the environmental equilibrium line altitude (envELA) of the Alpine glaciers, which resulted consistent with geological records.
