WMS-light

  • 1. University of Stuttgart

Description

WMS-light is the "lightweight workflow management system". It allows deployment of distributed workflows over workstations, clusters, and HPC systems without much effort and requires little setup. The workflows are implemented by components, which can be existing scripts and applications allowing for easy adaptation. Data exchange between components, i.e., input and output-files, are handled transparently for the user using appropriate transport protocols between systems, e.g., ssh, GridFTP. WMS light takes care of the different access methods for the systems on which the workflow is deployed.  Further, for HPC systems, WMS light interacts with the queuing system (PBS, Slurm) to allocate resources and start jobs to run components. The workflow execution can be controlled via set of control commands or by external tools using a REST based API. These commands and interfaces also allow to query the status of workflows, resources, and deployments.
