A new spectrophotometric method for the determination of palladium(ll) in microgram level has been developed on the basis of the results obtained In the extraction study. Palladium(II) forms a 1: 2 (metal: ligand) complex with lsooitrosothlocamphor (INTC). Quantitative extraction of the complex into chloroform occurs from 5 M hydrochloric acid to \(p\)H 2. Beer's law is obeyed at 450 nm over the palladium concentration range 3-25 ppm. The system tolerates 4 to 50-fold excess of diverse ions. Mercury(ll) and thiosulphate interfere. Molar absorptivity of the complex was calculated to be 3.9 x 103 dm3 mol-1 cm-1 at 450 nm and sensitivity 0.025 µg palladium.
