Lohmannia

Description

Lohmannia Michael, 1898

Michaelia Haller, 1884, p. 234.

Lohmannia Michael, 1898, p. 75; Berlese, 1916a, p. 176.

New material of the type-species of the genus (M. paradoxa) has never been collected 2); Grandjean (1950a) studied the characters of Lohmannia with the help of a related species that he regarded as an auxiliary type (Lohmannia lanceolata). Some of the generic characters mentioned by him as especially important are, however, not dealt with in the original description of the three following species (murcioides, regalis, and parallela), so that their Classification in the genus Lohmannia remains doubtful; L. aciculata, although certainly belonging to a separate genus, is still classified here with Lohmannia too.

2) Grandjean (1950a, p. 97) remarks that he collected Haller's species possibly in Spain. The Spanish specimens recorded by Mihelcic (1956, p. 13, fig. 7) as Lohmannia (Michaelia) paradoxa? (this combination of generic names is incomprehensible) differ, however, from Haller's original description by the shape of the hairs; Mihelcic draws the genital plates as undivided, which is probably an error.
