Description

Cononedys efflatouni (Bezzi, 1925)

Aphoebantus efflatouni Bezzi, 1925: 205. Type locality: Egypt.

Diagnosis: To some extent, shining black species. Frons with many long black erected hairs mixed with some lying yellowish white scales especially at margins and lower part; there are some few white hairs on sides at level of antennae; face with long dense bristly hairs at lower part forming as a beard on oral margin; antennae black with black hairs at scape and pedicel. Thorax covered with a few sparse minute coarse white hairs and some long thin whitish hairs at posterior margin; bristles and hairs at margins yellowish white mixed with some shorter black hairs at sides of anterior half; hairs and bristles at margins of scutellum yellowish to brownish mixed with some black ones especially at posterior border. Abdomen covered with a few sparse minute coarse white hairs and many long black hairs at posterior borders of tergites, mixed with some whitish hairs at sides. Male genitalia (fig. 3). Spermatheca (fig. 7).

Distribution: Palaearctic: Egypt, Israel.

Lectotype designation: Bezzi (1925) originally described this species based on an unspecified number of specimens captured by Efflatoun Bey from Wadi Hoff (south eastern of Cairo) in 10.3.1922. Only four males with the same data and having red type labels are preserved in ESC. They are in a fair condition. The best preserved of them is here designated lectotype.

El-Arbaein, 19- 27.4.1939 (H.C.E); 1 male, 1 female, Ein Gedeirat, 13- 22.4.1938 (Shafik); 1 male, W. Assiout, 10.4.1935 (Sh.M); 1 female, W. El-Maskhara, 21.3.1927. [EFC].
