Medium sized, 16 mm, flies with conspicuous long gold/red mats of hair on tergites 3–7. Thorax and tergites 1–2 black. Head widened.
Redescription based on one female specimen. Head: Face black with black hair. Mystax long, black. Short, sparse black parafacial hair. Orbital hair long, black. Short, sparse, black postocular hair. Ocellar tubercle with black bristles and hair. Antenna black with black hair; relative lengths of segments: 3>2>1; postpedicel (segment 3) with a dorsoapical pit. Thorax: Pale blue medially, black laterally, entire scutum covered with evenly distributed, sparse, short, black acrostichal hair. Postpronotal hair black. Chaetotaxy with 1 notopleural, 3 supraalar, 4–5 postalar bristles, all black. Long, fine, black acrostichal hair. Discal scutellar hair black, sparse. Scutellar margin with black bristles. Lateral aspect of thorax black, gray pollinose. Anepisternum with long, fine black hair; posterior margin with weak black bristles. Katatergal bristles long, black. Anatergite covered in black velvety tomentum. Legs: Entirely black with black hair and bristles. Wings: Tinged black around veins. Abdomen: Bright gold/red long mats of hair on tergites 4–7. Tergites 1–2 blue black with black hair. Tergite 3 with medial and lateral gold/red hair. Male: Unknown.
