Acanthopleura Guilding, 1829

Type species: Chiton spinosus Bruguiére, 1792, subsequent designation by Gray (1847b). Distribution: Tropical and subtropical waters of the Indo-Pacific, also in the Caribbean Sea and the western coast of South America from Peru to Chile (4°– 36°37’S), Recent.
