Description
Drassyllus adullam n. sp.
Figs 4, 5
Type material. Adult male holotype from Adullam Reserve, foothills of Judea, Israel, leg. Yael Mandelik, March 22, 2002, pitfall trap (HUJ 15529). Female unknown.
Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition referring to the type locality.
Description. Small, yellow with relatively large dorsal scutum on opisthosoma. Eyes sunken. Chelicerae with 3 promarginal teeth.
Male. Measurements (holotype): total length 2.2; carapace length 1.1, width 0.9, index 1.22; labial index 1.0; clypeal index 1.67; MOQ index 11.0; legs length: I 2.65, II 2.10, III 1.95, IV 3.20; patella-tibia index 0.91.
Palpus. Small, with median embolus running obliquely and turning beyond apical part of bulb (Fig. 4); contours of whitish conductor barely visible. Strong tibial apophysis varies greatly in shape on ventral and lateral views (Figs 4, 5).
Diagnosis. Based on male. The palpus with the median trajectory of the embolus and the shape of the tibial apophysis in particular, clearly distinguish D. adulam from all other Drassyllus species.
Distribution. Israel, known only from the type locality.
